The Pay Modernisation team are responsible for the full implementation of the new Consultant Contract, the new General Medical Services (nGMS) contract and Agenda for Change across NHS Scotland.

These contracts represent a significant overhaul of the previous arrangements, and are designed to reward, motivate and free up staff to deliver redesigned, improved services to patients.

Implementation of the contracts is linked to the Scottish Executive Health Department (SEHD)s policy objectives and key NHS priorities such as waiting time targets.

NHS Staff Council produce set of proposals for system of unsociable hours payments

The NHS Staff Council recently recommended a set of proposals for a new system of unsocial hours payments to the UK Health Departments.

These proposals have been approved by the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing in relation to NHSScotland, with the exception of the Scottish Ambulance Service.  Separate discussions will take place through STAC to agree unsocial hours arrangements for the Ambulance Service.

HDL (2005) 51 set out the requirements for the NHS Boards in Scotland to undertake Pay Modernisation Plans to demonstrate how they are using the new contracts (Consultant Contract, GMS and Agenda for Change) to support corporate priorities and deliver targets.

The letter confirms the approach to be taken by NHS Boards in fully implementing the new Consultant Contract, the new General Medical Services (GMS) contract and Agenda for Change, together known as pay modernisation, outlines the performance management arrangements for ensuring delivery of benefits from pay modernisation and provides links to supporting guidance on pay modernisation benefits.
